IMPORTANT NOTE

Hello, and welcome.
I would like to inform you that I AM MOVING.
...well, sort of. I have started a new blog, Oui Crochet, that focuses just on crochet, crochet patterns, and crochet resources. I am in the process of building it up as a one stop shop for all things crochet, and I am very excited about it. I hope you will come over and check out my progress. :)
I will be moving my patterns from this site, to my new site. My idea is to leave this site active, so that you can still access other aspects of this site. I will also leave a modified "introduction" post where each pattern is on this site, as to keep all links active and make it so that you can easily locate the pattern's new home. As an added bonus, you will also find new printable/downloadable versions of my patterns.
I apologize for any inconvenience, but I assure you, this change is a positive one. I look forward to seeing you at Oui Crochet.
Happy Crocheting!

Recipe Roundup- New Years Eve Party!

I thought that New Years Eve would be a fitting day to post my Recipe Roundup. After all, this day (or night, rather) is known for its parties! When I think of parties, I think of FOOD!
I've shared many recipes with you over the past months. Here are some of my favorites:
Fluffy Dinner Rolls
LeftoverMashed Potato Soup
Cheesy Potato Patties
Baked, Breaded
Chicken Strips
Red Chile For Burritos

Snickerdoodle Cookies
Pumpkin Roll
Make Your Own Granola
You can find the rest of them on my FOOD page.

Are you a true "foodie" or even just starting out cooking? I have been a member of a super, awesome cooking forum for years, now! We'd love to see some fresh, new faces in the group! If you like to talk food (and many other things), like trying new recipes, like sharing recipes, and like to share how a recipe you tried turned out, this is the place to be. Just sign up at The Quality Cook. The security settings are set pretty high, so leave me a comment (or message me), and I will inform the admins that you are joining!

There are a number of other sites that I love looking to for recipes, but when it comes to tried and true recipes, I love looking to other blogs.

I have a number of bloggy friends who frequently post some awesome recipes. Whether you are looking for family friendly, healthy, or special diet, I'm sure you will find a site (or 5) on my list that you'll love!
Here they are:

Lemon Squares Recipe

I love lemon.
That is all.

Okay... that's not really all. I really do love lemon desserts, though. A couple of years ago, I researched a ton of lemon square recipes. Some were too sweet. Some were not sweet enough. Most didn't have enough lemon flavor. What was I to do?

Giving up was simply out of the question.
I fiddled around and made my own!

These lemon squares are sweet, but I think the sweetness balances out the super-lemony flavor. If you want a little less sweet, simply reduce the sugar a bit.

Enjoy!

As Seen Online...

I had the opportunity this week to make a couple of things that I've seen online recently.

The first thing I made was a batch of super yummy Coconut Bounty Bites from Stephanie at Silver Boxes. She has a really cool blog with crafts, makeovers, and recipes. You should totally check it out!
Here are my Coconut Bounty Bites:

These were soooo yummy!
I don't know which part was better, the fact that I was able to whip them up in about fifteen minutes, the fact that there was only 4 ingredients, or the fact that they were a total hit with my family. ...not that I shared many with them....

I think the next time I make them, I will take half of the batch and place an almond on top. Or maybe a half of an almond or an almond slice. I think it will be both yummy and pretty!

Thank you Steph, for sharing this awesome recipe!

Perfect Microwave Rice

Do you ever have times when your rice just doesn't quite turn out? Sometimes it's a little under done... sometimes it's a little mushy? I would normally suggest using a rice cooker to get your rice to turn out perfect every time. But, what if you don't have one? Or what if you just don't want to go through the hassle of digging it out of the bottom of the cupboard? Or what if you don't want to hassle with cleaning it? Or what if your counter space is limited?
That's a lot of what if's.
A better what if... What if you could cook it in the microwave?
You can.
AND it will be perfect every time!

(Note: You're gonna want to start with a clean microwave. The rice will steam uncovered in the microwave, so if there are food splatteres inside, well... that just wouldn't be good. No one wants bits of spaghetti sauce from lunch in their rice.)

Perfect Microwave Rice

What You Need:
A large, microwave safe bowl. (Make sure you have enough room for the rice to expand.)
2 cups white rice
3 1/2 cups water
butter and salt, if desired

What You Do:

  1. Put the rice in the bowl. Add the water. Add the salt and butter (if you are using it).
  2. Microwave UNCOVERED on high power for 10 minutes. DO NOT OPEN THE MICROWAVE DOOR.
  3. Now, microwave it on medium power for 15 minutes.
  4. Let it sit in the microwave for a couple of minutes before opening the door.
  5. Remove from microwave and fluff with a fork.
  6. Serve.

Super-easy!!!
I'm sure you could substitute some or all of the water with a broth of your choosing, and you can add other seasonings, if desired.
