IMPORTANT NOTE

Hello, and welcome.
I would like to inform you that I AM MOVING.
...well, sort of. I have started a new blog, Oui Crochet, that focuses just on crochet, crochet patterns, and crochet resources. I am in the process of building it up as a one stop shop for all things crochet, and I am very excited about it. I hope you will come over and check out my progress. :)
I will be moving my patterns from this site, to my new site. My idea is to leave this site active, so that you can still access other aspects of this site. I will also leave a modified "introduction" post where each pattern is on this site, as to keep all links active and make it so that you can easily locate the pattern's new home. As an added bonus, you will also find new printable/downloadable versions of my patterns.
I apologize for any inconvenience, but I assure you, this change is a positive one. I look forward to seeing you at Oui Crochet.
Happy Crocheting!

Crochet Toddler Hat (free pattern)

Here is another post that I am moving over from my old blog.

Crochet Toddler Hat

There is just something cozy about a handmade crocheted hat. I made this hat for my almost one year old. It is slightly big, but it still fits her (she has a big head, lol). I believe that it would be perfectly sized for a toddler.
For this hat, I chose a sport weight baby yarn that I had left over from a baby blanket that I made. As for the pom-pom, Well, I had some leftover yarn from the trim of the same blanket, and pom-poms are fun, so I just had to use it for this.

You need:

Sport weight Baby Yarn
Size G (4.25 mm) Crochet hook

(HDC= half double crochet)

Instructions:
Working in back loop,
changing from HDC to SC

Ch. 41
Row 1: SC in second chain from hook. SC in next 9 CH, HDC in next 30 CH. Turn.
Row 2: CH 2, HDC 30 in back loop only, SC 10 in back loop only. Turn.
Row 3: CH 1, SC10 back loop only, HDC 30 back loop only. Turn.
Rows 4-53: Repeat rows 2 and 3 25 times. Do not finish off.

After working a few rows.
See how the SC end is smaller?
Finishing:

CH 1, fold in half so that both ends are together. Working through the back loop of the worked stitch and through the back side of the foundation chain, slip stitch across. Finish off.

Cut a double thickness of yarn, about 24 inches long. Weave through the top (smaller) edge of the hat, working with the wrong side. Pull tight and tie off. Weave in ends.

Optional:

Join a second color to the bottom edge of the hat and SC evenly across. Finish off and weave in ends.
Make a pom-pom and attach it to the top.
