IMPORTANT NOTE

Hello, and welcome.
I would like to inform you that I AM MOVING.
...well, sort of. I have started a new blog, Oui Crochet, that focuses just on crochet, crochet patterns, and crochet resources. I am in the process of building it up as a one stop shop for all things crochet, and I am very excited about it. I hope you will come over and check out my progress. :)
I will be moving my patterns from this site, to my new site. My idea is to leave this site active, so that you can still access other aspects of this site. I will also leave a modified "introduction" post where each pattern is on this site, as to keep all links active and make it so that you can easily locate the pattern's new home. As an added bonus, you will also find new printable/downloadable versions of my patterns.
I apologize for any inconvenience, but I assure you, this change is a positive one. I look forward to seeing you at Oui Crochet.
Happy Crocheting!

Facial Headband & Scrubbie {free crochet pattern}

I love crocheting with the cotton craft twine that I got from The Twinery! Remember my Seed Stitch Cuff that I made with it? You can see it here.
Because the twine is 100% cotton, I thought it would be perfect for a facial headband and little scrubbie.
I had bought a headband that I would use when washing my face, but it became stretched out and no longer usable. I knew I wanted to make one, so I picked out a pretty color of the twine and got started on a nice, stretchy headband. When I finished it, I figured I would make a small facial scrubbie to go with it. It even has a little loop, so that you can hang it up and allow it to dry thoroughly.

Weekly Crochet Square: Week 17

Today we are going to do a fun little square. This square uses the puff stitch. The puff stitch looks like cute little raised bubbles and  It can be used in many decorative ways.
Again, this was a busy week for me so, unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to finish the square. I finished a portion of one and I think you can get the idea of what it will look like by that. Let's get started.

Weekly Crochet Square: Squares 15 & 16

As promised, I am catching up this week! Yay!
I have two really fun and pretty squares for you. One is a solid shell stitch and the other is a star stitch.
I have been overly busy this week and tried really hard to finish both, but I didn't quite get the star stitch square finished. I am posting what I have because you can still get the idea of it, and well... I did promise to get it published.
I hope you like them!

Crochet Seed Stitch Cuff {free pattern}

A little while back, I won a large assortment of crafting twine from The Twinery. I immediately knew that I wanted to use it for crochet projects. Well, I finally got around to making a few things. One of the things I made is a cue little seed stitch cuff bracelet. I used the Gold Shimmer twine and finished it off with an inexpensive, but cute little plastic purl-y button.

Weekly Crochet Square: Squares 14 & 15

Yes... that's right... 14 and 15.
I admit it... I slacked.
I am working on catching up, though! I should be all caught up by next Friday. Yay!
Square 14 is a simple stitch with a slightly lacy effect. It is called a V-stitch, and it is made up of double crochets and a chain.
Square 15 is one that I think is really pretty. It it is a version of a cable stitch, made up of double crochet stitches with alternating rows of single crochet stitches.

Weekly Crochet Square: Square 13

I love squares that are worked from the center. This week's square is worked in this way, with a little twist... there is a cute little flower in the middle!
This square would look great with contrasting colors for the flower and the rest of the square, too.

Weekly Crochet Square: Square 12

Don't you just love the basket weave effect in yarn? I do. In fact, when I was relearning to knit (which I still don't do very well) one of my first projects was a basket weave stitch baby blanket. Not one to be taking on many knitting projects, I set out to find a crochet version of the stitch. Turned out that is isn't as difficult as I thought it would have been.
The stitch is basically made up of double crochet stitches. There is a slight twist to it though. Instead of working the double crochet stitches in the top loops of the previous row's stitches, you work around the post made in the previous row's stitches. It's easier than it sounds. I promise.

Weekly Crochet Square: Square 11

This week's square is a fun and easy stitch that, I think, turns out really pretty. It is a seed stitch. The seed stitch uses both the single crochet and the double crochet. It only takes a few minutes to get the hang of it, so it works up fairly quickly. The seed stitch can be used in various projects, and is nice when you want that extra little something.

My wrist is still sprained and sore, but I was still able to work up a small sample for you.

Weekly Crochet Square: Square 10

This week is an easy one. We will be working in the back loop only of a half double crochet stitch. This results in a nice decorative ridge in your work.
Unfortunately, I have sprained my crocheting wrist, so I was only able to work up a small sample for you. See the monstrous brace I have to wear? It goes almost up to my elbow, and I can't bend or twist my wrist. Boo!
I promise, the stitch is easy, though, and I am sure you can get the jest of it.

Weekly Crochet Square: Square 9

This week, I am going to re-cap on a couple of stitches I already did, and I am going to add a triple crochet (tr). The tr is an interesting stitch, and can be a bit difficult to work at first. Just practice it and find your groove, and it gets easier.
Let's get started.

Weekly Crochet Square: Square 8

This week, I am going to do another super simple square. Just a plain double crochet. This is one of the most used and versatile stitches in crochet. You can use the double crochet (dc) to form a lot of different decorative stitches, including granny squares, fans, v-stitch, and many, many others.

Let's get started.

Weekly Crochet Square: Square 7

Continuing on with the basic stitches that I promised you, this week we are going to do one of my personal favorite basic stitches: the half double crochet.
I like the stitch because It is easy to work and has a little more bulk than a single crochet, yet is a bit tighter than a double crochet. It's kind of a happy medium.
I like happy, don't you?
Great!
Let's get started.

Weekly Crochet Square: Square 6

Last week, I shared with you my idea of what I should have done with my weekly crochet squares. This week, I am putting that into motion.
If you are looking to learn the basic crochet stitches, these next few weeks are for you! Today, I will focus on just the basic single crochet. Just one square should be enough practice for you to get the stitch down fairly comfortably. Once you have this and the other basic stitches (half double crochet, double crochet, & treble crochet) down, you will be ready to tackle almost any crochet pattern. The squares following the basics (along with the squares that have preceded this post) will show you different ways to use these stitches to make various effects.
Let's get started.

Weekly Crochet Square: Square 5

As I am sitting here thinking about my introduction to this week's square, I can't help but look back at the past four weeks and kick myself! What I should have done was to start simple and use my weekly squares as a crochet tutorial. You know, start with the single crochet, then move on to double, etc.
But I didn't do that.
Maybe I will start that next week, because I didn't start that this week either.
This week's square is a simple net stitch. I used the net stitch in my crochet beach/market bag (that I am currently using as my crochet bag), as well as in the crochet plaid blanket that I made for my daughter. Here it is in a square.

Weekly Crochet Square: Square 4

Last week we did the granny stripes square, so I felt it only fitting to go with the traditional granny square this week. Actually, I probably should have done the square last week, and the stripes this week, but I just didn't think that far ahead, I guess.
I really like the granny square because it is very easy and it works up really fast. It is a perfect stitch for multi-colored, pieced together afghans and lapghans. It also makes a really pretty all-one-piece afghan or throw.

Weekly Crochet Square: Square 3

I decided to keep this week's square simple and sweet.
I love the Granny stitch and I love Granny Stripes.
You may know of my Color Burst Granny Stripe Blanket that I made for my daughter. If not, you can find that pattern HERE.
It was so much fun to make, that I wanted to include a Granny Stripe square in my weekly square series.

Fingerless Gloves for Kids {free crochet pattern}

A while back, I posted my pattern for Kids Fingerless Gloves. You can view that pattern HERE. My daughter really liked them, so I wanted to make a pair for one of my other daughters. This time, I made them to go a bit longer on the arms.
She loves them!
I was going to make a flower applique to attach to the back of the hands of the gloves, but my daughter was too anxious to wear them, and "stole" them away before I could do it. Luckily, she let me snap a couple of quick pics!

Weekly Crochet Square: Square 2

Here it is! Week 2's crochet square!
I had a little fun with this one. I looked through some different stitches for inspiration, then decided to grab some yarn and try a few different things.
I played around with some stitches, tore a few things out, and played around some more. I finally found something that I like, and figured it would make a nice little square. So, without further ado... I will share it with you.

Weekly Crochet Square: Square 1

I thought it would be fun to make a different crochet square each week this year, and share them (along with the free pattern) with you! My idea is to turn them into a blanket early next year. I am thinking that I will use whatever colors of yarn that I happen to have on hand, then bind them together with black yarn for a sort of "stained glass" look.
Would you like to join along? Just visit me every week and crochet a square along with me. If you'd like updates sent directly to your inbox, you can subscribe to my blog by email, and you will get an update on each post.
