This is a simple Granny Stripe blanket. I like granny stripes because they are easy to do, and you can use color to make many different patterns. I played around with color patterns (on paper), until I figured out one that I liked.
My finished blanket measures 50x50 inches. Had I realized that it would end up a perfect square, I probably would have made it narrower, and repeated the color pattern one more time in length. But my daughter is quite happy with hers being square, so I will be too.

ReplyDeleteI LOVE this blanket/colors. I am somewhat new to crocheting and am attempting this blanket. My biggest issue is that it is curling as I go. Any suggestions to elevate the problem? Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteHi Korny Karen! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI'm not exactly sure how you mean that it is curling, but I do have a couple of suggestions:
First, count your stitches/clusters in your first row, and in your last row (maybe a couple rows in between, too). Make sure that you didn't accidentally add an extra cluster or leave one out. (I've done that, and had to take out about 7 rows! Not fun. But the end result is much nicer.)
Second, make sure you are consistent in your tension. If you tend to crochet tightly, then do that through the whole piece. If you crochet loosely, then continue to work loosely through the piece.
I hope this helps!
I would love to see your finished blanket! If you like, you can add a picture to my Facebook page. (The link button is on the right).
I love the granny stripe. It's just such a pleasure to work on. I especially thank you for sharing your color sequence. I'm doing one in bright blue, lime green and yellow, thinking a boy would like those bright and cheery colors. I see more of these in my future. Thanks again!!!
ReplyDeleteDiane, I think your color choices sound great!!! Perfect for a little boy!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see a pic of it when you are finished. :-)
If you'd like, you can post a pic to my Facebook Page or email me and I will post it to the page. :-)

Hi Susie, I posted a picture of my afghan on your FB page. The colors on the picture didn't come out true to life. Think lime green and a brighter blue and you'll have a better idea of what it really looks like. Thanks again for a great pattern.

Hello, I found your blanket on Ravelry and I love it! I would like to learn if I may sell blankets made from your pattern? Giving you credit as a designer of course. Best regards, Gabriela
ReplyDeleteHi Gabriela. Please click the Contact Me tab on the left of the page & email me. Thanks! :-)
DeleteI just finished this in blues, royal blue and a carolina blue with a variated yarn from red heart called heartfelt. I wasn't sure I would like the variated yarn but the bright colors in that made it look like gumdrops :) My little boy and husband love it cuz it is huge. Going to make a baby blanket next with bright colors (who says babys have to have pastels only) Thanks for this wonderful, easy pattern!!
ReplyDeleteHi....I'm a novice crocheter and came across this beautiful pattern that you've created. I purchased all of the yarn needed to complete it...I love the colors and I'm anxious to get started. I think I'll be okay with the pattern itself but my question is about how to go about changing colors. In previous projects that I've worked on, I have always finished off with a color by tying it off at the end of the row and then starting with the new color. That creates a lot of ends that need to be worked in. Is that how you do it, or do you somehow 'carry' the colors through the rows and use them as you need them (if you know what I mean)? Can you explain the best way to handle changing the colors?
ReplyDeleteThank you and many thanks for the beautiful pattern.
Cheryl
Hi Cheryl. When I made this. I tied off the ends, then just folded them across and crocheted over them, hiding them as I went along. It saved a step from weaving them in and made it a bit neater. You can do this when working the new row, or when working the edging.
DeleteI hope that helps! Happy crocheting!
Thank ou SOOO much for posting this. I tagged it on Facebook as a hint, ok ok not a hint I straight up begged my mother in law to make it and here is the finished product!

Thank you again sooo much!
Lovely easy stitch, I love the colours on this blanket.
ReplyDeleteHi Susie! I found you via AllFreeCrochet, and I'm so glad I did! :D I had been thinking of making a big granny square blanket in coastal colors - until I saw yours. Now I'm almost bursting with excitement at the prospect of ditching that little plan, and going with yours! WOO HOO. Can't thank you enough.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I'd like to subscribe via email but can't find the option to do so. Am I looking in the wrong place? The icons won't permit access for me, so I'm hoping it's nothing to do with my Mac.
So looking forward to more blanket patterns (hopefully) in the future. Cheers, Hx
I love this pattern! I am using just one type of yarn, the Tweed Stripes in Luau. It looks gorgeous so far! Quick question though: At the end of Row 2 (2 DC in last space and then 1 DC into the third stitch of chain 3 from the previous row), my corners are starting to get taller than the row. Any suggestions? Or will it eventually even up?
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this pattern! I made a blanket in brown, white, and orange for a Browns fan. It looked awesome! I will definitely be making more blankets with this pattern. Thank you!
