IMPORTANT NOTE

Hello, and welcome.
I would like to inform you that I AM MOVING.
...well, sort of. I have started a new blog, Oui Crochet, that focuses just on crochet, crochet patterns, and crochet resources. I am in the process of building it up as a one stop shop for all things crochet, and I am very excited about it. I hope you will come over and check out my progress. :)
I will be moving my patterns from this site, to my new site. My idea is to leave this site active, so that you can still access other aspects of this site. I will also leave a modified "introduction" post where each pattern is on this site, as to keep all links active and make it so that you can easily locate the pattern's new home. As an added bonus, you will also find new printable/downloadable versions of my patterns.
I apologize for any inconvenience, but I assure you, this change is a positive one. I look forward to seeing you at Oui Crochet.
Happy Crocheting!

Homeschool vs. Traditional School

There are many reasons that families choose to educate their kids at home and just as many for those who chose traditional school. I decided to highlight 10 common topics that are argued by both sides. Let's see if you can guess which side makes each of the following arguments:

OK... are you ready to see who said what?

Both!

That's right.
I have seen online and heard in real life both sides arguing each of the same points.
Each side used the same reasons for sending their kids to traditional school, as they did for homeschooling.
Sure, a few of the finer points were different, but in the end the arguments were the same.

So, which is better?
Who wins? Homeschool or Traditional school?
Which is right?

Honestly, in the end, no one else can give you the right answers.
You have to do what works for you and your family, and what you feel is best.

Simple. As. That.

  1. This was great! I get so sick of having to defend our decision to homeschool our children. It was a decisions about what is right for OUR family. Other families weigh the same factors, and decide on traditional school.

    1. Thanks Patricia! Exactly! I am so tired of people insisting that there is only one right choice. There may be one right choice for THEIR family, but it may not be the right choice for the other family.
Homeschooling is the right choice for my family. I expect others to respect that as much as I respect their right to make the decisions that they feel are right for their families.

  2. This is so true! I'll admit I have been guilty of a few of these comments, but I'm starting to really see the good in both options and I'm not sure what I'll do with my own children.

    1. In all honesty, I have been guilty of some of them too! I have since learned that both sides can be argued, and we just have to do what we feel is best for our children.

  3. That was my guess. Being a retired public school educator, and having many friends who home school, I have heard all those comments from both sides. I think what it comes down to is finding the right way to educate EACH child. For some, that would be a public, or perhaps a private, school, and others would do better with a good homeschooling program. I think there are some children who will excel wherever they are, and maybe some who will fail wherever they are.

If I were making the same decision today, I might stay home and educate my own children!

    1. I totally agree! Not only is each family different as a whole, each child is different and learns differently from each other. The way a child learns is an important factor in deciding how to educate him/her. :-)

  4. Great topic. I have considered homeschooling my Lily, but I don't think I have the patience! It's still being discussed by my husband and I. I went to school and so did he. I definitely don't want to send her to a public school, I know that much. Thanks for sharing those interesting points and for linking up :) Have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Jessica! If you are still debating on homeschooling, you can start by trying it on a small scale with pre-K. It's a great time to discover if it is something that would work for you & your family. :-)

  5. What a great post!! It is so true. Only you and your husband can make the right choice for your family. Each has pros and cons and you have to decide what works best for you. Thank you for sharing at Sharing Saturday!!

  7. I quit my job to homeschool my granddaughter. In our area, we have some really good schools and some that are not. She was in one that was not so good. By the end of the 4th grade, she was only reading at the rate of 10 words a minute and struggling every day. UNACCEPTABLE!!! We started at the 4th grade level, but she was really way below it. It took us very long hours that first year to bring her up to grade level. Now she is in 7th grade, and she flys through her work. For us, homeschooling was the answer, and it has been very successful. My other granddaughters go to a much better school, and they are doing great. Your comments are correct....there's no one answer for everyone. I don't judge those who choose to keep their children in public school. Seven of my eight grandchildren went to public school successfully. But this one child was so needy in terms of schooling that I couldn't bear to watch it another moment. For her, homeschooling was a life saver.
