IMPORTANT NOTE

Hello, and welcome.
I would like to inform you that I AM MOVING.
...well, sort of. I have started a new blog, Oui Crochet, that focuses just on crochet, crochet patterns, and crochet resources. I am in the process of building it up as a one stop shop for all things crochet, and I am very excited about it. I hope you will come over and check out my progress. :)
I will be moving my patterns from this site, to my new site. My idea is to leave this site active, so that you can still access other aspects of this site. I will also leave a modified "introduction" post where each pattern is on this site, as to keep all links active and make it so that you can easily locate the pattern's new home. As an added bonus, you will also find new printable/downloadable versions of my patterns.
I apologize for any inconvenience, but I assure you, this change is a positive one. I look forward to seeing you at Oui Crochet.
Happy Crocheting!

Our Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies

My family LOVES cookies!
Seriously.
Like an addiction.
It works out well, because cookies are one of my favorite things to bake!
I want to share our favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe with you, along with a tip on making your cookies nice and soft and chewy.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

What You Need:
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 cup butter, softened- not melted
1/2 cup vegetable oil (I use canola)
1 cup brown sugar (light, golden, or dark is fine. I like dark, because it gives a richer flavor)
1 cup white sugar

1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 eggs (room temperature)

2 cups oats (I like to pulverize the oats in the blender or food processor, or even with a stick blender first, just to break them up a bit. They "hide" better this way. Just don't over-pulverize them.)
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips ( I use a generous cup... and I steal a few... just don't steal them all... you will see why, later.)

What You Do:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Sift the first 4 ingredients in a medium bowl. You can cheat by simply mixing it together with a whisk. ;-) Set this aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat together the butter, oil, and sugars until creamy.
  4. Add the vanilla, then beat in the eggs, one at a time.
  5. Stir in the oats.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  7. Form dough into small balls and place on a cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for about 8 minutes. *See tip below

Tip to make your cookies soft & chewy:

Keep an eye on your cookies as they bake.
When they look like this, take them out of the oven.

I like to place them on paper towels to cool.
Notice how the centers still look wet?
This is a good thing... just don't eat them yet.

Let the cookies continue cooling.
The centers will finish cooking as they cool.
This is when the kids are convinced that
you are purposely torturing them...
Buy them off with a few of the chocolate chips that
you didn't steal earlier.

The cookies are ready to eat when they look like this:

Enjoy your soft, chewy, yummy cookies!
