Weekly Crochet Square: Square 4

Last week we did the granny stripes square, so I felt it only fitting to go with the traditional granny square this week. Actually, I probably should have done the square last week, and the stripes this week, but I just didn't think that far ahead, I guess.
I really like the granny square because it is very easy and it works up really fast. It is a perfect stitch for multi-colored, pieced together afghans and lapghans. It also makes a really pretty all-one-piece afghan or throw.



Traditional Granny Square

What You Need:
Worsted weight yarn
Size I hook

What You Do:
Chain 5, join to first ch with slip stitch to form a ring.

Stitch Abbreviations:
ch= chain
sl st= slip stitch
dc= double crochet
sp= space

Round 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 3, [3 dc in ring, ch 3] 3 times. Join with slip stitch to top of ch 3.
Round 2: Sl st in the next 2 dc and into the ch-3 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in the same ch-3 sp, ch 1,
*(3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in the next ch 3 sp, ch 1 repeat, from *  around. Join to top of ch-3.
Round 3: Sl st in the next 2 dc and into the ch-3 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in the same ch-3 sp, ch 1,
*3 dc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc , ch 3, 3 dc) in next corner sp, Ch 1, repeat from * around.Join to top of ch-3 with sl st.
Round 4: Sl st in the next 2 dc and into the ch-3 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in the same ch-3 sp, ch 1,
*3 dc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 1, repeat from * to next corner sp. **; (3 dc , ch 3, 3 dc) in next corner sp, Ch 1.* repeat from * around, end at **. Join to top of ch-3 with sl st.
Rounds 5- 6: Repeat round 4.
