Canola Oil & Butter Spread

Have you looked at the ingredients in most of the buttery spreads in the grocery store?
Scary, isn't it?
Making your own spread is super easy, and pretty frugal!
All you need is butter, canola oil, and something to whip it up with.
This is what a half-recipe looks like in a 15oz container.
One of the great things about this, is that you can customize it with garlic and herbs to make an easy herb spread that will taste great on pasta, garlic bread, rolls, etc.
Another great thing is how easy it is to make!

Canola Oil & Butter Spread
What You Need:
1 cup butter, softened to room temperature
1/2 cup canola oil

What You Do:

  1. In a large bowl, whip up the butter until it is creamy and fluffy. (I use the whisk attachment on my Cuisinart stick blender, but a mixer will work fine.)
  2. Slowly beat in the canola oil, and beat another minute, or so. (It will look a little thin, but it will set up better after refrigeration.) If adding herbs, fold them in now.
  3. Spoon mixture into a smaller container and refrigerate for about an hour before using.
You can use other oils, like olive oil, but I find that canola is good for various uses of this spread because it doesn't have a strong flavor.
Enjoy!

  1. I've been meaning to make my own spread, and you've made it sound easy. I like the idea of adding herbs. I've been substituting canola oil for part of the butter in recipes for a while now, and been happy with the results.

    1. Great idea subbing canola oil for part of the oil in recipes! I think I will start doing that! And this spread IS super easy to make. Once the butter is room temp., it takes less than 5 minutes! ;-)
