Knitted Toddler Pillowcase

I am not a knitter.
I mean, I know how to knit. Well, at least I know the basic knit and purl.
But, I don't knit. It is so much harder for me than crochet.

That said, I love the way knitted items turn out.
When I got some Bernat Baby Blanket as a Mohter's Day gift, (awesome, right? what "yarner" doesn't like getting new yarn as a gift?!?!) I loved how thick and soft it was.
Because it is so soft, I wanted to use it to make a pillowcase for my youngest daughter. This way, she could snuggle the softness all night long.
Not wanting a super thick pillowcase, I decided that I would knit it.
I mean, how hard can that be?  How long can it take?
Ummm... not being an experienced knitter, it took me some time.
But the time and effort were well worth it! My daughter loves her pillowcase!

It was actually very simple to make.
I just made a large rectangle (knit one row, purl the next) to fit the dimensions of  the pillow, plus I went about 12 rows longer.
I then sewed the sides together, folding over the extra 12 rows and sewing it along with the sides. This left sort of a little overlapping pocket to help keep the pillow in (see the above, right photo).

Did I mention how soft this yarn is?
It is.
Really soft!

Have you used this yarn for any of your projects? I'd love to see what you've made! Leave me a link in comments or post a photo on my Facebook Page!

  2. That's a great project to try when you're getting back into knitting, at least I think it would be, since I've never knitted before! Thanks for linking up at Hookin On Hump Day!
