Easy Way to Clean Your Microwave

I recently made some Red Chile for Burritos for dinner. Yum! One of our favorites!
Well, we had leftovers, so I heated some for lunch the next day...
in the microwave...
without covering it.
Yeah, bad idea.

(I never thought I'd be posting dirty pictures on the internet.)

An even worse idea was leaving it there without cleaning it until late that evening.
So, how do you get stuck on chile cleaned out of your microwave? It's easier than you may think.

All you need is a microwave safe bowl, some water, a little vinegar, and something to wipe it down with.
Seriously.
It is that simple!

Just get your bowl of water and add about a tablespoon, or so of vinegar to it. I had apple cider vinegar on hand, so I used that.

Stick the bowl in the microwave and nuke it for about 5 minutes. Let it sit in there without opening the door for another 5 minutes. The steam gets everything all loosened up.

Now dip. I used paper towels. Just carefully dip it in the hot vinegar water (yes, it is hot, so don't burn yourself). Then remove the bowl (again, carefully). Wipe down the microwave, re-dipping as needed.

Voila! Nice and clean! Okay, mine is stained a bit, but that is from... I don't know what it is from. But it is a stain and cannot be removed. Or can it? Any suggestions? Maybe I will try baking soda.

  2. Looks like a good tip. I suppose you could try bleach for the stain? Just a thought. :-)
Thanks so much for stopping in at Cranberry Morning! Love your header. :-)

  3. This is great! I saw another post like this (using lemon juice) that didn't go into as much detail, and when I tried it, it didn't work quite right. Thanks for the more specific instructions! I like the idea of using vinegar better too; it's so much cheaper than lemon juice (I think you were supposed to use quite a bit of lemon juice). Thanks, again!
