I see it on almost every blog.
This little button.
This RSS link.
Ok... I guess I will get it too.
But, what is it?
There are many articles on the web describing exactly what RSS is and exactly how it works. I read a few of them, so that you don't have to. Of course, you can if you want to. Maybe you should. It's kinda interesting. Just Google "What is RSS?"
But if you don't want to, I'll tell you basically what I gathered from the info that I read.
RSS can stand for different things, but the most popular that I've seen is "Real Simple Syndication".
So, what does it do?
If you subscribe to an RSS feed, you can get the information from that website automatically fed into your RSS reader. You can do this with multiple sites that you visit often, thus allowing you to see the feed from all of those sites on just one page.
In a nutshell, it reduces web travel time by putting the content from your favorite sites (blogs, news, sports, politics, weather, etc) all one one page for you.
So, how do you get it to do that?
Well, you need an RSS reader tool.
Most of them are free, so that's good. I've read that they are easy to use, so that's good too!
Just Google "free RSS reader tools" for download options. I found a ton of them here.
Sounds simple enough, right?
I haven't set a reader up for myself, yet. I plan to do it when I get a new computer. If you have an RSS reader, I'd love to hear which one you have and what you think about it.
Is it worth having? Please share your thoughts in "comments" below. Thanks!
The problem with readers is that they keep your viewers on the reader, so don't put all your info in your post, link the good stuff to another page so they have to come to visit to get the recipe or tutorial...or it will hurt your traffic...but you need it because a lot of people use it...if you don't have it you will get left out...google reader is right there on your dashboard just click it and you'll see..I recommend you follow yourself so you can see what you look like in your reader......good luck!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Deana! I will go through and change that. I was debating on whether I should limit my info or not, so I really value your input. :-)
ReplyDeleteHmmm... it doesn't seem to be working for me. I clicked on Summary Burner in Feedburner & it isn't limiting. I guess I'll have to look into it more later. *sigh.
ReplyDeleteSusie, Thanks for sharing your research! I'm in the process of trying to figure out readers, too. :-) I've nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award! Please stop by when you get a moment, to check it out. I hope you have a great night!
